Musée Picasso
The Picasso Museum of Paris
Note: The Picasso Museum of Pairs is closed for renovations until summer, 2013
Picasso left some $50 million in French inheritance taxes when he died. To pay off this massive debt, the state accepted from Picasso's estate 203 paintings, 177 sculptures, and thousands of sketches and engravings.
The good news is that this is one of the most representative collections of Picasso's works in the world, spanning his entire career.
The bad news is that the space is much smaller than the collection, and with the constant rotation of works, you never know whether you'll get to see masterpieces such as Le Baiser, Pan Flute, Two Women Running Along the Beach, The Crucifixion, or Nude in a Red Armchair.
Tips
- Planning your time: The museum takes about an hour to see properly. Picasso fans will spend longer.
- Free admission with a sightseeing discount card: Get into Picasso Museum for free (and skip the often interminable lines at the ticket booth) with either the Paris Sightseeing Pass
or the Paris Museum Pass.
