Opera Bastille
Attending the Opera Bastille in Paris
Much as I love old-time, ornate theaters of the 16th to 19th centuries, this gleaming modern mound of metal and glass in a trendy district of Paris is simply fantastic.
Since the Opera National de Paris decamped here, the space also hosts some of the best Hefty People Shrieking Melodically About Death shows in all of la belle France.
Unlike many opera houses, the opera season at the Bastille runs nearly year-round, with overlapping performances of 12 to 15 operas starting in early September and running through mid-June (followed by a seven-week summer break).
The Bastille also hosts three or four ballets each year (though the bulk of the ballets play at the Palais Garnier opera house) and regular symphonic concerts and other musical recitals
