Best views in Paris from the Montparnasse Tower
Why is the view from the Tour Montparnasse the best in Paris? Because, if you're standing on top of it, you won't have the ugly modern tower itself spoiling your view of Paris!
The Tour de Montparnasse is a modern skyscraper jutting indecorously from the Lost Generation's Parisian hillside like a very long sore thumb, spoiling almost every view of Paris from its other famed viewpoints.
Luckily, you can kill two birds with one stone: get the Montparnasse out of your postcard view by riding Europe's fastestelevator to the roof (56 stories in 38 seconds), and in doing so enjoy the second-highest views in Paris from 210 meters (690 feet).
From here there's a great close-up of the Eiffel Tower lined up straight down the Champs de Mars park.
Tips
- Planning your time: The elevator shrieks to the top in just 38 seconds (your stomach may arrive a few minutes later), so you could be in and out in, say, 15 minutes—but give it at least half an hour. There's also a film available up at the top that showcases aerial views of Paris and its landmarks; it lasts 20 minutes. Realistically, you should budget an hour for this—plus, it's not exactly near anything else, so add in 10–15 minutes each way for travel.
