Al 34
A classic shopping disctrict restaurant in Rome, Italy
This is a fashionable and classic post-shopping restaurant, with such flavorful food and atmosphere we can forgive the splurge prices. The most coveted tables are on out the cobblestones, but the interior is a pleasant mix of rustic wood beams, brick arches, and Liberty-style mirrors and prints. The set-price menus are great deals, covering everything from antipasto to tiramisù.
The Sicilian-inspired "Oscar" menu gets you spaghette al pesto di Trapani (short pasta in a pesto of basil and almonds), maccheroni alla Positano (with eggplant and provola cheese), and steak or Messina-style involtini di pesce spada (swordfish rolls).
If you prefer Roman delights, the "Roma" menu offers tastes of bombolotti alla Amatriciana (thin pasta tubes in a spicy sauce of tomatoes, onions, and pancetta bacon), and rigatoni con pagliata (pasta with a sauce of suckling calf intestines—you won't beleive me, but this truly is a delectable Roman delicacy), followed either by trippa alla romana (tripe) and coda alla vaccinara (octail stew), or a less adventurous but enormous serving of abbachio al forno (roast spring lamb).
