Fast food, Italian-style

Il Delfino, a cafeteria-like restaurant off Largo Argentina in Rome, Italy

Fast, cheap, reliable, central, and open through riposo, this modern cafeteria-style joint two blocks from the Pantheon has long been a budget standby for tourists and locals alike. who are determinedly tramping about the heart of the centro storico. It's a glorified tavola calda with delicious self-service hot foods (pasta in tomato sauce, penne with tuna, vegetable soup, lasagna, eggplant parmigiana, seafood-studded risotto, a breaded pork chop, Roman-style fried artichokes, or an entire spit-roasted chicken) and pizza and a fantastically convenient location a short stroll from Piazza Navona, and mere steps away from one of central Rome's biggest bus nexuses. If you're homesick, they also do an American breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast with butter and marmalade, and fruit juice or cappuccino.
