Three Days in Rome
What to see and do if you only have three days to spend in Rome, Italy
Day 1
Spend the morning touring the Vatican Museums, then walk around to hit St. Peter's in the early afernoon. Head over to the medieval Trastevere district in by midafternoon to see a few of its sights (such as the churches of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere and Santa Maria in Trastevere) before finding a trattoria for dinner.
Day 2
Yesterday was all about Christian Rome; today it's time for ancient Rome. Have the earliest reservation possible at the Galleria Borghese, then swing by the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme branch of the Museo Nazionale Romano on your way down to tour the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, the Capitoline Museums, the Imperial Fori and Trajan's markets, the Colosseum, and hiking beyond the Colosseum to descend through two millennia of history under San Clemente church.
Day 3
Spend the day exploring the Tiber Bend area: the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, the Palazzo Altemps branch of the Museo Nazionale Romano, Sant'Ivo, the Galleria Doria Pamphilj, the Spanish Steps, Ara Pacis, Santa Maria del Popolo, and the passeggiata up Via del Corso and its surrounding street. Be sure after dinner to head over to the Trevi Fountain, toss in a few coins, and ensure your return to Rome.
