Secrets in the basement
The remannts of the Teatro di Pompeo (Pompey's Theater) is hidden away in the basement of an unassuming restaurant near Campo de' Fiori
OK, so strictly speaking the Theater of Pompey (Teatro di Pompeo) is not an official sight, nor can you see all of it. But one of Rome's great hidden gems is to nip into the basement dining rooms of Da Pancrazio Restaurant, which are installed in several of the marble arcades that made up this important (and now thoroughly buried) 55 BC landmark.
Be polite about it, try to come before or after mealtimes—or, hey, way not stick around for lunch yourself? The restaurant is moderately priced, and the amatriciana is actually quite good.
Just northwest of Campo de' Fiori on Piazza del Biscione
Open only around mealtimes, and Closed Wednesdays
