, Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland
The Stone House Cafe, cozied into a tiny stone building (once the gatehouse to Frybrook House) with picture windows hanging right over a burbling river in Boyle, a small Sligo city boasting a prodigious half-ruined abbey, completed in 1220 but now romantically roofless, with wild grass in the tumbledown cloisters (Cromwell's troops ravaged most of Ireland's Catholic churches in the mid seventeenth century). teh cafe serves thick $3 sandwiches and slabs of death-by-chocolate cake (this time, they very nearly mean it) and thick apple pie that actually tasted of apples and not just sugar. Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland.
