The chapel next door to San Francesco church is a masterpiece of Giacomo Serpotta, Palermo's master of elaborate stucco work who carried the baroque style to rococo heights (or excesses, depending on your tastes).
Between 1699 and 1707, he created ten statues and eight reliefs based on the lives of Saints Francis and Lawrence, plus the Martyrdom of St. Lawrence panel above the door.
Sadly, the oratory's second main claim to fame—a Caravaggio Nativity—was stolen in 1969.

Amazing stop, but don't expect to hang aroud longer than 10–20 minutes.
You might have to enlist a custodian to unlock the door in order to actually get inside..
