Inexpensive Sicilian food and panini in Siracusa

This is a tiny joint struggling to offer genuinely good food at low prices.

When they get crowded, orders can back up in the 6-by-3-foot kitchen cubby, but be patient and you'll be rewarded at the end of the meal with an excellent dessert, perhaps tiramisù or a crostata di ciliege (cherry pie).

The few narrow, bench-lined tables rest on old-fashioned cast-iron legs, so you kind of feel like you're waiting for a train, only with waiter service.

They always have plenty of Sicilian snacks and light dishes on hand—cured meats, cheese, antipasti—as well as salads and panini such as the rustico (cheese, salami, sun-dried tomatoes) or delizioso (cheese, cooked prosciutto, hard-boiled eggs, mayo, and lettuce).

There are daily pasta and meat dishes such as spaghetti alla carbonara, penne al salmone, roast chicken breast, and hamburger and fries.
