People & Body Parts (cont'd)

Mate - A buddy (can be of either gender), as we have all know well after having been nauseatingly inundated with this sort of terminology during that brief American love affair/fad with all things Australian after Crocodile Dundee came out.

Scots - The correct term for a person from Scotland. "Scotch" is only used for whisky, soup (scotch broth) and mist. Actually, it is a bit of an insult to use "scotch," so please keep that in mind.

Shag - OK, I wrote this dictionary before Austin Powers came out and this word entered the Yank lexicon. In case you missed the filmic phenomenon, "shag" means to sleep with. It can be kind of a playful term, used to joke around about the subject, but it can also be a malicious term. Depending on how you inflect it, it can mean from "to fool around with" to "to fuck."

Snog - Play tonsil hockey, suck face, neck the heck out of each other, and otherwise smooch excessively.
