FAQThe budget dives lining the stretch of Corso Italia from the train station to the town center are just that: dives. Walk a bit farther, and you'll get significantly better quality (not to mention closer to the center of Sorrento) almost as cheap.
Ever-developing Via del Capo is a clifftop road leading out the far end of town which is host to a number of generally cheaper hotels, most with sea views.

Casa Astarita [€€–€€€] -Sisters Rita and Annamaria Astarita hace turned a rambling apartment a block past Sorrento's cathedral into a tiny B&B mixing old-fashioned style and modern appointments with a personal touch. "This is our family palazzo," says Rita in a smoke-laden rumble as she joins her guests for a communal breakfast of cakes, croissants, sliced cheeses, fresh fruit, and yogurt. "Our grandfather still lives across the hall!"... Corso Italia 67, Sorrento.

Hotel Villa di Sorrento [€€–€€€€] -This is the rather more comfortable, climate-controlled hotel among our choices in Sorrento, with an excellent location just half a block up a tree-lined street from Piazza Tasso. Roms no. 41 and 42 have terraces with the best views (over red tiled roofs to greensward around town with even a sliver of sea below). A steal off-season, when prices for a double plummet to €70 on-line. Via Fuorimura 6, Sorrento (1/2 block north of Piazza Tasso).

La Tonnarella [€€€–€€€€] -The best of Via Capo's inns is the vista-blessed Tonnarella. Persian runners tumble down the stairs, antiques fill the halls, and although it’s only a 10–15 minute walk from town (or take Bus A), you'll feel like a tourism fugitive in a coastal hideaway, enjoying first-class amenities and decor at relatively low prices. Via Capo 31, Sorrento.

Hotel Mignon [€€–€€€] - A pleasant budget hideaway up an exceedingly quiet side street near the Duomo. One hard-working woman looks after these simple, colorful rooms, cleaning the rooms and taking pride in her home-cooked breakfasts. Most of the spacious rooms have or share a terrace, some overlooking the orange trees of the garden. Via Sersale 2, Sorrento (1/2 block off the Corso to the north).

Hotel del Corso [€€–€€€] - The best bargain hotel along the car-trafficked main drag, with great people-watching from your window during passeggiata—either overlooking the busy Corso or from sought-after rooms 52–55, whose shoe-wide balconies hang over quiet, pedestrianized Via S. Cesareo. Corso rooms are noisy, so if you can't stand rumbling buses, go for nos. 62–65 on the building's quieter back side. Corso Italia 134, Sorrento (1/2 block beyond Piazza Tasso).
