Delft
Planning a trip to Delft in the Netherlands
The city of Vermeer and blue-and-white ceramics is a gem of Renaissance and Gothic buildings.
Hit the 14th century Niuwe Kerk church in the market, with most of the Dutch royal line of the House of Orange buried in the crypt, and the 13th century Oude Kerk with its turreted spire.
If you're into ceramics, visit the De Porceleyne Fles, Rotterdamsweg 196, the premier factory of blue-and-white (and multicolored) Delftware where you can watch them craft and hand-paint the porcelain according to traditional methods (and they'll ship your purchases home).
The Prinsenhof Museum has historical and paintings collections as well as a peachy ethnographic museum of anthropological and cultural objects from the former Dutch colony of Indonesia.
